For those who like bright lights and music there are amusement arcades and a vast funfair. A theme park offers a scenic railway, water chute, picnic garden and other leisure activities. Included in the enormous selection of entertainment facilities is a theatre with first rate shows - Margate's Theatre Royal dates from 1787, this is the second oldest theatre in Great Britain and the oldest to remain in its original state. There is an interesting parish church dedicated to St.John, this stands on the site of a former chapel of ease built around 1050. The present church has a long and fascinating history, it shows many treasures including fine brasses and is well worth a visit. A "must do" whilst in Margate is take a fishing trip or a boat trip out to sea, this is one of the best ways to fully appreciate the beauty of the Kentish coast.
