A small market town in the middle of a famous bulb growing region, there is a cluster of small streets and a central main street where the dominant feature is the church of All Saints, built between the 13th and 14th-centuries. The church has a beautiful tower and spire, and in spite of being restored on several occasions, retains many of its original features including an octagonal perpendicular style font. The pulpit was designed by Ewan Christianson, and there are noted effigies and brasses. The towns market charter was granted to Thomas de Moulton, a local Baron in the 13th-century. Parts of the castle owned by the de Moulton family are said to have been incorporated in All Saints Church. The sea, never far from the town caused considerable flooding in both the 13th and 16th-centuries, and until the early part of the 19th-century the sea was just two miles distant from the town. The land drainage programme of the 19th-century moved the coastline some nine miles away, leaving Holbeach surrounded by gentle reclaimed pasture land. This pretty fenland town is home to a campus for the University of King's Lynn. It has a vibrant, youthful community and a friendly atmosphere. The town of Spalding is 8 miles distant and Kings Lynn lies around 20 miles away. There is plenty of accommodation in the area making it an ideal place from which to explore the lovely tulip fields of Spalding, the River Welland and the waters of the Wash.
